Below, the information we provide on location! Click the scroll!

******
Name of Project: The Gothic Experience

LnL Square welcomes you to "The Gothic Experience"! We aim at giving you a glimpse of the magic of the Gothic world in SL.

Elements: Gothic Architecture and Gothic Fashion

Did you know that...?

Gothic Architecture

... originated in the 12th century and lasted into the 16th century
...Gothic buildings were mostly cathedrals, abbeys and churches but also castles, town halls and universities
... its main characteristics are pointed arches, ribbed vaults and flying buttresses plus elaborate sculptures, emphasizing verticality and light
... the Gothic plan of a cathedral was cruciform, with a long nave, a transverse arm called the transept and beyond that the choir
...there was a revival of the Gothic style during the mid-18th century through the 19th and into the 20th century

Contemporary Gothic Fashion

... originated in the Victorian cult of mourning
... is characterised by a profusion of velvets, lace, leather, dark flowing capes, gloves, and ruffled cuffs
... its predominant colors are black, scarlet, purple and red
... is accessorized by religious, magical and macabre jewellery (bones, rosaries, pentacles, ankhs or skulls) in silver
... reflects a modern version of late Victorian excess

LnL Cathedral visited by a Linden!

It's always fun to meet a Linden live! LOL Gecko Linden dropped by LnL's Cathedral on his tour of SL8B! And he did enjoy it! Yay!!

SL8B Opening Ceremony!

The SL8B opened on June 20th! It was quite an adventure to get to the Main Auditorium! London and I managed to attend only to crash exactly when the opening speech was being delivered!! Sigh!

But, as exhibitors, we marked our presence and ended up sharing the experience with our friend Skye, who is also an exhibitor!

Above you can see how "low" the traffic was! NOT! LOL When you drop by SL8B for a visit, make sure to get rid of all attachments that create lag and to reduce your settings to minimum, so you can enjoy everything fully!

LnL members at SL8B!

Here are two LnL members who are also taking part in the SL8B (Second Life 8th Birthday)!
Do drop by for a visit!
iSkye Silverweb - =IcaruS= at SL8B
This Clocktower and Carillon was built specifically for Second Life’s 8th Birthday, to represent the magic of Second Life as collaboration transcending space and time. It is a gathering place to reflect on themes both ancient and futuristic. Bells, towers and clocks all pre-date written history. Together they speak to the power of assembly whether in a physical space or a virtual one. When you visit our exhibit, you contribute to a continuum that resounds beyond space and time - and that is magic. For more information, check the =IcaruS= website!

Xavion Saltair - The Magic of Lionheart
The exhibition informs the visitors about the continent itself about the magic of Lionheart, informing visitors about the uniqueness of our continent as well as about the community life at Lionheart. For more information check the Lionheart website.

SL8B LnL Making of the Cathedral!

After being accepted to participate in this year's Second Life Birthday, LnL committed itself to creating something special! This is how everything happened! We started with an idea, a CATHEDRAL! This project aimed at offering a glimpse at the magic of the Gothic world and style in both Architecture and Fashion. What a challenge! LnL took the job very seriously and, step by step, level by level, the structure was built. The idea was starting to come to life!

Then it was time to create and select all the textures, perfect for each elements of te Cathedral, and align each prim (one by one, yes, it took ages!) and position them in their final location. It's quite a sight, isn't it? :)

Finally, the task was done! It took a whole week, hours of tireless work and an absolutely amazing job done by London, whose enthusiastic application made everything possible! And it looks fantastic from all sides!

Below you can see a part of the interior, and the two stands with lots of great gifts for you - the very first LnL Outfit in purple (the colour of this year's event!) with a purple ankh monocle to match; one of the first LnL Tshirts with a skull and tattoos design; the SL8B celebration Tshirt created especially for this event; and, last but not least, a brand new, unrelased, absolutely gorgeous Gothic Outfit in tones of black and hints of red!

If you check the photo closely, you can see a bench with a scroll. If you click it, it'll give you a notecard that tells you a bit about "The Gothic Experience"! LnL created a Gothic cathedral with a display of Gothic Fashion. It brought you a taste of the beginning of LnL and what LnL is doing now. We hope you enjoy it!

Thursday discussion - "The Decline and Fall of the Second Life Empire"

On Thursday 16 June at 2pm prompt, we'll be having another discussion in the Lounge. This week:"The Decline and Fall of the Second Life Empire" Many people say that SL has past it's peak; the hype is over, big businesses have pulled out, Linden Lab's staff levels are dwindling. Is SL dying? How long does it have? Will something replace it or is the concept of Virtual Worlds doomed to fade?

Hope to see you there
