London Junkers at UWA Exhibit!

 The University of Western Australia (UWA) once again organized an art contest, The UWA Centenary 3D Art Challenge, run in tribute to the 2013 Centenary of the University of Western Australia, as UWA reflects on its 100 years of existence and ponders the question of what the next 100 years will bring.

Many renowned  artists in Second Life (SL) are present, among which LnL's co-owner, London Junkers with his impressive piece "Reflections - Through the Eyes of UWA".

 In the words of the artist himself,

"100 years of knowledge, 100 years of wisdom, 100 years of love and care, of joy and growth. Over 100.000 graduates  have witnessed  the greatness of UWA.  Others , like me,  have touched its beauty in a virtual manner.
The  piece represents the view of those who travel the path of UWA, past, present and future, in the form of an eye.
This is the eye that sees it all, the eye that let us see the advantages of education, discipline and belief. The eye that silently guides us through the darkness of ignorance, and let us reflect what is good and what is not. Inside the eye, UWA, helping us, bringing the light and enriching our life.  In the back of the capsule, the nerves, transmit  what is learned to the future generations, like propellers pushing the capsule through  the fragile fabric of space and time.
Congratulations to UWA, for the great effort. And thanks specially for letting me participate and express my gratitude to the project. Best of wishes, and see you in 100 years ;-))
London Junkers"
This 57 prims unscripted piece, massive-sized, yet unexpectedly elegant, is walkable; you may climb the ramp and walk inside the UWA eye. Well done, London!

London Junkers wins 1st place in Art Contest!

As you may recall, London took part in the Art of Protest Contest with the art installation "Paper against Peace" and the Awards Ceremony took place yesterday in the Shekhawati sim.
 It started with a beautiful concert of Indian Classical Sitar and Tabla play by VK and Nik.
Some of the participating artists in this Contest included Betty Tureaud, CaraMia Quan, Corcosman Voom, Eupalinos Ugajin, Hugo Krell, Noni Abeyante, Pol Jarvinen, Queen Bish, Riali Sandalwood, Secret Rage, Silene Christen and Sisi Biedermann and London Junkers, many of them present. Both Quan Lavender, the organizer, and Veekay Navarathna, the owner of Art India and Medley Arts, did an amazing job both during the length of the exhibition (September-November) and at the Awards Ceremony! You can find a list of all the winners and photos of their artwork at Quan's Travelogues.
The 3D non scripted category had three entries, CaraMia Quan with "Stop Genmanipulation", Corsosman Voom with "No, Not Me" and London Junkers with "Paper against Peace". And the first prize went to... drum roll... LONDON JUNKERS!!! London went onto the stage to receive the award of 4000L and said "thanks so much. I must say it is an honour and I want to thank you guys for the prize. I also want to thank Lizzie and dedicate this to her!! She is my inspiration!!" Awww, that was sweet!
Already back at home, I (Lizzie) took a picture of London next to the award certificate for posterity! Congrats to the winner artist! :)

Project Guernica in the blogosphere

"Project Guernica" opened its doors to visitors a few days ago! Both London and I would like to thank everyone who attended the Opening for their support and words of praise. It was great to see a lot of familiar faces and a handful of new friends.
It was spectacular to see how visitors enjoyed the installation and found it impressive. The opinion was that this piece was a fit homage to Picasso's Guernica.

Here are a few of the places where "Project Guernica" was mentioned (in random order):
 Featured Events, also visible in the splash screen of Second Life's official viewer
(the photo above is a composite).
 Featured Events as seen in the splash screen of the viewer Firestorm.

For a better viewing of "Project Guernica", we suggest the following:

1. Use Mouselook.
2. If you don't see things correctly, set your draw distance higher.
3. Turn Atmospheric Shaders on -- click Ctrl+P or go to Preferences > Graphics > General Tab > Shaders: check Atmospheric Shaders > Apply

This exhibiton will be open till November 30 at LEA6.

London Junkers at the Art of Protest Contest

The challenge was to create an art installation on the theme "Protest". Many artists answered the call and the The Art of Protest Contest was set up.

This is a very interesting event curated by Quan Lavender and held in Second Life in the Art India Gallery where the pieces are carefully displayed. Great job.

 Some of the participants are Betty Tureaud, CaraMia Quan, Corcosman Voom, Eupalinos Ugajin, Hugo Krell, Noni Abeyante, Pol Jarvinen, Queen Bish, Riali Sandalwood, Secret Rage, Silene Christen and Sisi Biedermann and London Junkers.

London created the piece "Paper against Peace" (see above; detail below). In the description of his work, he writes a powerful message:

"In today's world, where money is everything for everyone, we cannot forget that even with our pockets full without peace, we are lost. LnL protests against the system for not understanding that . Millions of dollars are spent in armament when they should be put into the development of Peace, against hunger, against illness, against hate, against ignorance. We  protest for love, for freedom, for beauty, for education, for humanity....for dreams, and for a better future."

The contest prices will be attributed in 3 categories, 3D art scripted, 3D art non scripted and 2D art. The winners will be voted by public votings and by a jury, consisting of art historian and blogger  Rowan Derryth, artist and curator Ux Hax and art blogger and curator Quan Lavender

The votings close November 18 and the nomination of the winners will be November 23. The exhibition is open till November 25. So, drop by the Art India Gallery for a visit and do vote for your favourite art work!

Two peas in a pod!

Three years and counting! That is certainly not usual in Second Life (SL) where people are fast to get together and faster to split up. Perhaps it's the way SL makes everything race by, perhaps it's the intensity people live in SL. Whichever the case, London and I are indeed two peas in a pod. As a friend said about us, we reinvent ourselves in SL and experiment a lot (see pic above!!) and that helps us become better people in RL. The past was a road of togetherness and personal development, of sharing and discovering. We made something happen both in SL and in RL, and there is nothing more special than that! Now, let the future spread its wings and fly! Mwahxxx, Lizzie :)

1-2-3 What's in a name? That which we call a rose

"What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet."

Shakespeare would have loved to know her. A woman full of thought. Full of knowledge. Full of wisdom. A person so humane, so big it is incomprehensible. She is amazing, she is a gift of the stars.

Her name means "God's promise". Her name has been the name of Queens and Empresses.

Her name is Liz, Lizzie to be exact, and she is the first L in LnL!! And this post is devoted to her for her beauty, for her wisdom, for how great she is. She has written 123 stories , 123 writings to challenge our thoughts, to stir our brain cells.

Written with mastery, written with love, written with heart. One thing I can tell you is that if you read those writings you will go in them and won't come out without getting a big surprise!!

Lizzie's Blog is a rose to water every day, to read, to smell, to love. Thanks Liz for giving us the beauty of your creation. You are a wonderful writer, and William was so right, with your name you smell so sweet :-) !!! Click here to see what I am talking about!!

LEA Roundtable Tips!

London and I attended the LEA Roundtable: Purpose and Approach to Full Sim Art Exhibition” moderated by Sasun Steinbeck. This was particularly interesting considering London will take part in the LEA Full Sim Art Series in November.

Here are a few topics to remember from the meeting:

>More space between sims is needed and preferably have them placed in a checkerboard pattern to avoid exhibitions colliding amongst one another and to facilitate shooting machinimas/taking photos;
>Use common sense and respect (apparently a simple notion, but not always implemented)!
>Cooperate and communicate - interact with neighboring sims!
>Plan and design carefully but don’t hesitate to experiment;
>Consider building in multiple levels;
>To terraform, ask the assistance of an officer to assist with terrain textures;
>Use prim saving techniques and go easy on the scripts (note: check texture sizes)!
>Remember, not all viewers “see” the builds the same way (note: test the final look with several viewers and quality definitions);
>Some exhibits request visitors to remove HUDs, AOs … to help with lag, although some people don’t like doing that… So, something to consider.
>Think Windlights!

In general, it was an interesting meeting where artists and curators with experience in large-scale exhibits shared their experience!

Rezdays and of how time flies!

Rezdays are always special. They celebrate the beginning of an amazing experience, renewed every day by unexpected discoveries, new friends and magical moments. Both London and I, after four years in Second Life, still find new ways of being captivated by this astounding virtual world. This past January 23 and 24 were mine and London's rezdays respectively! We started off having different views and experiences in Second Life; then we moved on with a common project, LnL Square, that has been quite an unbelievable journey, from a group to gather friends first, to a store next and a huge area to enjoy with several locations and varied activities now. We have so many friends who throughout time walked this journey with us. Some have drifted away back into RL. Others are still inworld with us after all these years. New friends have joined us as well. To all, we owe the joy of having made our SL a much more interesting life! Thank you!

Quote Chat with Muse!

Our dear friend Muse is moderating a new event called Quote Chat at Tripician Center. Each month, there is a theme; this month's is "light". Each week, a quote will be put forward to help trigger the discussion. Yesterday's quote was “There are no paths to enlightenment; only journeys from it”. It was a very lively and interesting discussion with the moderator doing a fantastic job by making everyone feel welcome and pushing the limits of the topic further in a very attentive way. Everyone was encouraged to share thoughts, ideas, feelings even. Do drop by! It takes place every Tuesday at 1.30 pm SLT hosted by Muse Starsmith. A perfect time for people on both sides of the big pond! :)

And it was time to party!!!

Yesterday LnL celebrated the 2nd anniversary in Second Life!

We started by creating a group of friends could be together and stay in touch. After a while, the LnL store was created and LnL became a brand. Yet, we think that keeping friends together is the key to enjoying SL. So, after two years of existence, it was time to celebrate this special moment with all our friends!

London and I prepared the Ballroom to welcome everyone! We set up some light effects, some particles and.. yes!.. a birthday cake! LOL We also had a rotating platform with two gifts - an awesome purple LnL bike and a cuddly shoulder pet!

As everyone started arriving, the music was already on! London set up the playlist and started spinning those tunes! We welcomed so many of our SL friends. It was fantastic to see everyone!

Jad took this picture above showing us all wearing the balloons Janie gave out! The balloons congratulated LnL on its 2nd anniversary! Hehe that was cool!

The DJ did an amazing job and here he is, looking very professional and giving everyone pretty good reasons to dance and spin!!

DJ London doing his part in this awesome celebration!!!!

The party continued with song after song being played and in the company of great friends!

As the party ended, a few final words. Time flies! And these two years have been a lot of work and a lot of fun! London and I want to thank every and each one of our friends and LnL'ers who came to the party to share this special moment with us! Without you, SL wouldn't be as fun! Knowing you has made our SL a lot more meaningful! Hugs to all!!!

Thank you, Paco and Manu!

Manu and Paco have created this awesome congrats card for LnL's Anniversary! Thank you guys! Also thank you for the fantastic words in your blog 22769 - casual couture! :)
